Driving Directions
Important Notes: Some of the roads are gravel, please take care! the Wakefield route (Option 2 ) has more sealed road than the Brightwater Route(Option 1). Pay close attention and drive to the conditions. Forestry trucks and other vehicles regularly use these roads.
Option 1 From Brightwater Follow River Terrace Road for 3.5km, turn right onto Wairoa Gorge Road and continue on Wairoa Gorge Road for 7.4km.
At intersection of Pig Valley Road and Wairoa Gorge Road, turn left onto Wairoa Gorge Road and continue to where the bridge turns up Wairoa River Road. DO NOT cross the bridge (Forks Bridge).
The turn off to Gilbert lodge is to the right of the intersection, follow the road through the forestry gate to Gilbert Lodge.
The forestry gate needs to always remain closed.
Option 2 From Wakefield – Follow Edwards Street from the main intersection in Wakefield for 1.3km, turn right onto Church Valley Road and continue for 5.5km until it joins Pig Valley Road. Continue onto Pig Valley Road for 3.4km
At intersection of Pig Valley Road and Wairoa Gorge Road, continue straight on Wairoa Gorge Road to where the bridge turns up Wairoa River Road. DO NOT cross the bridge (Forks Bridge).
The turn off to Gilbert lodge is to the right of the intersection, follow the road through the forestry gate to Gilbert Lodge.
The forestry gate needs to always remain closed.
