Gilbert Lodge is a Scout campsite set up around an old shearing shed located on the Department of Conservation reserve at Wairoa Valley, in the Tasman District of the Upper South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.
The campsite was named in memory of Stan Gilbert, a former Scouting Leader who passed away in 1974. Stan was the driving force behind the old shearing shed’s establishment as a place which Scouting youth could use as a camping base, for overnight adventures, and as a training venue.
Friends of Gilbert Lodge, also known as FOGL, manage and maintain the Gilbert Lodge Scout Campsite to empower Scouting youth to lead lives that make a positive difference, through adventurous experiences gained by camping, spending time in and exploring the natural wonderland of the Kiwi bushland at Wairoa Valley.
FOGL is an associate group of Scouts Aotearoa. FOGL is comprised of volunteers who are both currently active adult volunteers and leaders of Scouts Aotearoa as well as those with Scouting backgrounds but not currently serving as leaders within Scouts.
