Gilbert Lodge has two separate bunk rooms with built in bunks which can sleep up to 26 people. The two bunk rooms provide for separate accommodation for youth and adults. It has a basic kitchen area with bench space for food preparation, and a sink with cold and hot water taps. Hot water is provided by the gas califont hot water system in the kitchen, however you will need to supply your own LPG filled cylinder for your stay. There is also a lounge area with a log burning fireplace which has a wetback fitted for water heating. All this in addition to a wide wraparound undercover deck for alfresco dining and lounging.

- Toilets are two DOC Style long drops.
- Water at the taps is from the tank which collects rain water from the roof. You need to boil all drinking water,
- Hot water is only available in the kitchen sink – BYO LPG cylinder,
- Outdoor Cooking Fire and Campfire – BYO firewood that you intend to use and leave some behind for the next Scout groups. Use outdoor fires only with a fire permit which you need to obtain by applying to Fire and Emergency NZ well in advance of your camp,
- Lighting – 12 volt LED strip lights supplied via solar panel and battery.
Important to Note:
- There is no electricity on site. BYO generator if desired – an external generator connection point to the building is available,
- There are no showers and no ablution facilities – but the river provides a great bath!
- Rubbish – There is no waste disposal facility on site – You need to take all rubbish back with you,
- There is no phone on site and no cell phone coverage (Brightwater is approximately 30 minutes away and has reliable cell phone coverage),
- Sandflies can be a problem for most campers. Bring an effective sandfly repellent.

- Forest access for any activities only by permit from Tasman Pine Forests Limited.
